Few which I know:
1. Unique and quality Content
2. Keywords in content
3. Links Exchanging and Buying with same niche websites.
4. Blog post.
5. Building links as forum signature.
6. Internal Linking of pages.
7. Directories submission

Use a niche which has not so dense competition but is searched often....
You can easily dominate your site if you do so... :lol:
Use google Trends to track which keywords are more popular...and write the articles according to that...
