Ethernet problem in Ubuntu

I connect my ADSL modem via Ethernet....

In order to get connected in Ubuntu 7.10,i did the steps given in the Help documentation...
I got connected ... :lol:

I was happy..but after one restart the ethernet light in my modem is not blinking at all in Ubuntu 7.10...

My modem and net has no problem coz i am able to get connected in my PClinux OS as well as XP2..

So there is some problem in Ubuntu... :cry:

BTW i have realtek ethernet...
