Open a file using file menu or jus drag n drop
Step1:
Now u'll see two sub windows input and output
click on "video menu" and select "Full processing mode"
this option is already selected most of the time
Step 2: Video Codec Selection
Now again goto "video menu" and select "Compression"
Now u'll get the list of codecs installed on ur PC
select anyone of your choice
Note that if choose Uncompressed RGB then ur HDD will fill
up in seconds. And do not choose outdated codecs like
Indeo,Cinepak,MS video.They r outdated.Noneed of them
when u hav DivX,Xvid etc
I choose DivX my fav and which is the best video compressor
U need to install DivX codec pack from their site
If u hav installed acodec pack then like K-lite,Nimo
then it will come here. You may get two or more versions
if u hav the said codec packs installed
I assume DivX and proceed
Step 3: Video Codec configuration
Profile
Many of the new codecs hav their own configuration
So when I select divX I'll hav a "Configure" option
in the same window at right side.click on it
U'll get 3 tabs "Main" "Codec" "video"
In "Main" tab u'll hav "certification profile"
select 1 u'll get a description aside. Choose according
to dat.Say I'm publishin on net so want to hav small size
I'll choose "portable" or "handheld profile"
If I want to store a movie as collection I'll choose "Home theator"
or "High Def" profile. Selectin a profile affects the size
and quality of file
Bitrate
If u are advance user then u'll know wat bitrate will give what
quality. Generally the default works good.
Choosin less bitrate will decrease quality and file size
Choosin high bitrate doesnt mean that u'll get better video quality
then the original file. After a certain mark only file size will
increase not the quality. U'll learn this as u encode more files
At present be assured on what is given by default
recommended bitrate: 800kbps
Encode mode
1 Pass means file is directly encoded on basis of predefined codec
calculations. this will be quicker than "Multipass"
Multipass means the file is not encodec but a log is made of
the various sections of file. Means the codec will give more
data rate when there is a "suddden explosion" or "car crash"
etc effects compared to normal dialouges conversations etc
This is time consuming but the file size will be smallest
Next go to "Codec" tab
Here change only codec performance which is self explainatory
Fastest will ecode the file fast but less compression
Balanced setting is the best setting and selected by default
dont change any other setting. Let codec select wat is best
Next go to "Video" tab
Here u can set the aspect ratio i.e. size of video frame
Normally "Video CD" has 352x288 size. You can change it here
decrease the size if u want and file size will decrease. But video
quality will b bad when viewed "fullscreened"
But Indian films hav black bars at top and bottom. U can use this setting
to remove them. This will surely reduce the file size
Note that for DivX codec to work
"Width must be multiple of 4" and
"Height must be multiple of 2"
else u may get error when u start compressing
Instead of removing the black bars here I suggest to use the filters
which I'll explain later in the tutorial
Leave the remaining setting as is
Step 4: Audio Codec Selection
Now that you hav selected video codec go for audio
Most of people forget to compress audio and result in large file
So go to "Audio menu" and select "Full processing mode"
this is not selected by default
The "source audio" is selected by default. This will use audio
from the video file itself. If u dont want audio then select "no audio"
if u want some external audio file or want the background of video
to be some music then select "Wav audio" and choose ".wav" file
We'll go with "source audio"
Now again go to "Audio menu" and select compression
The audio Codecs installed on ur PC will be listed
Some may be listed twice. When using audio codec I suggest go for "MP3"
"Windows media audio" will not work if your video file is mp3 encoded
like the VCD files. Choose "Windows media audio" when you choose
"Windows media video"
When you hav two "MP3" option click on it
If u hav only one option then highest quality u can encode is
56KBps @ 22050 Hz which is accepteble
if you hav two option second will be professional MP3 codec
if u don hav it get it 4m here. (Its illegal to give that)
I got it 4m a trial software which I don use now
Code:
Attached File profcodec.zip ( 156.09K ) Number of downloads: 3
U'll hav several option the more "KBps" value file size is more
and sound quality is good.Select low setting for low file size
"32KBps" @ 11025 Hz is accepteble for net publishing
U can check "show all formats" for all possible conversions
But Virtualdub Lists the best possible by default
If u choose wrong conversion u'll get error "cannot convert stream"
or something like that. Try any other possibility.
recommended: 128kbps @44000
Step 5: Choosing file segment
In this step u'll select what part of file u want to convert
Jus take the arrow to desire start position. Use keyboard arrows for precise
marking. Click on "Mark in" button the 2nd last button
select the end position upto which u want to convert.
Use keyboard arrows for precise marking.
Step 6: Staring Compression
Now go to "file menu"
Select "Save as AVI" give a filename.
U'll get Virtualdub progress window
Hurray!!! U hav jus learned the basic video conversion
When the process stops u can view the file in any player
This will be".avi" file. Now if u choose DivX u can rename
it to ".divx" so that anice "DivX" icon will come
SImilarly to Xvid wmv etc
Step1:
Now u'll see two sub windows input and output
click on "video menu" and select "Full processing mode"
this option is already selected most of the time
