Well i suggest you to not to place ads in the home page...
In the articles or post place blend an rectangular text ads of 336x280...
Then place a Vertical ads of 728x90 in the sidebar
Lastly place a banner in the bottom....

This is the best ad placement....many pro bloggers are doing like this only
