yes i have tried co.cc its not that good i have a domain but its takes a long time to set up it takes around 48hrs and also co.cc charge for simple and popular domains and all the simple and good domains are gone till now.

dot tk has a disadvantage in it that it it doesn't generate cookies for the pages...if u refresh the page in any topic it will lead u to the homepage again...

Its better to buy a .com domain. Or any other paid domain because these domains are not too expensive and will prevent u from all kinds of hassels

yes, never go for free domain name. People makes sites to make few money.. and believe me its very hard to make money from sites having free domain name.

saving few bucks from domain name is not a good idea.

Yeah! u can instead save money on the hosting. Go for a free hosting in starting and then go for a paid hosting when ur site starts paying u back.
