I just use the print screen button on my keyboard! Then just mspaint copy and paste and save as JPEG. Works great haha.
I also use camstudio for videos of my desktop.

Print screen button only take screenshot of visible area.

You can also use FireShot addon for IE and FF.

I also use the screencap button on my keyboard whenever I want to have a screen cap of something.

Whats camstudio? is it like the video maker from the tutorials you can find on you tube?
